Christmastime in Milwaukee is one of my favorite times of the year. For the past decade or so, 95.7 BIG FM becoming “Milwaukee’s Christmas Station,” has signaled the beginning of the holiday season for me.
I miss the Downtown Milwaukee Holiday Parade, which for so many years was one of the highlights of November for me. Not only was it another indication that the holidays were right around the corner but it was one of the rare times that the staffs from all six of our iHeart Milwaukee radio stations were able to get together for a pre-parade breakfast!
Other highlights of the holidays for me include Meg and my annual visit to Candy Cane Lane in West Allis to collect donations for the MACC fund along with the city’s mayor, Dan Devine. We also host our 24 Make-A-Wish Wish-A-Thon…December 13th & 14th this year…and we usually make a trip to Potawatomi Hotel and Casino to call bingo numbers for the Heart of Canal street campaign.
During our local Christmas Wish contest, it’s been very heartwarming for me to see how we’ve had a small part in brightening other’s lives during the holidays. I’ve also been fortunate enough to be able to take vacation time during the week between Christmas and New Year’s Day the past several years to spend time reconnecting with my family.
With all of that said, I feel very blessed this time of year to be able to serve others and spend time with family. I look forward to new opportunities that future holiday seasons will bring and the traditions that they will become!
